The Research Behind the Future of Remote Collaboration
Telemidi software is backed by innovative research in a number of key areas – all with the aim to overcome the obstacles of latency that have limited remote collaboration in music performance and many other fields. Matt Bray’s PhD identified cutting-edge Latency Accepting Solutions (LAS) to form a solid foundation for Telemidi’s operation, from which a team of expert software developers have developed the Telemidi Protocol (patent pending) so that people from across the world may connect and create inlike ever before.

Key Research Focus Areas
Latency Reduction
Telemidi’s Latency Accepting Solutions (LAS) support a lateral approach to music production by accepting the Internet’s limitations while enhancing its affordances. LAS finds ways to seamlessly incorporate latency into the streaming process so that users may overcome its limitations. Thus, LAS facilitates synchronicity and creativity no matter how far users are apart.
Telepresence
Telemidi fosters an experience of telepresence, the feeling that users are sharing the same physical space, no matter how far apart they may be. This feeling of shared space promotes a more sincere connection, where communication and openness come freely, and distractions are minimised.
Real-Time MIDI Integration
By exclusively sharing high-quality MIDI data, Telemidi triggers the simultaneous generation of hi-fidelity audio for each user, bypassing the need to transmit bandwidth-heavy audio files. Each MIDI file is globally timestamped to allow for the holistic time calibration of all performance actions, this ensures that the output to audiences is crisp, clear and 100% in sync with how each performer played their part.
Other Applications
While Telemidi was conceptualised out of a desire to create music, the technology is of use for so much more. Education, online gaming, music therapy and online wellness are just some of the industries that can benefit.
